Coming from a devised/physical theatre background, Johnny began writing plays while studying at Humber College. While training he created two “performance masques” which sparked his interest for the creation of theatre. His training included collaborating with various colleagues, creating original ensemble pieces from improvisation or found text. Some of these devised pieces included The Illiad by Homer, The Idiot by Fyodor Dostoyevsky, and Candide by Voltaire.
In 2014, during his commission for PRIDECAB at Buddies in Bad Times Theatre, Johnny discovered his love for words and began writing his first play Oasis Love. Later that year he created a theatre company called Sisyphean Productions. Johnny self-produced two plays that year being Mirror, Mirror and Oasis Love until Claudia Carino joined the team as a producer in 2015. Together they produced INVISIBLE which launched the web-series Brett & Abbey which was also released by the company.
In 2015 Johnny also attended George Brown College for playwriting which was taught under the guidance of Kate Lushington.
Johnny is currently a playwriting teacher at the Active Living Center and will be teaching playwriting with the Toronto District School Board in the fall of 2018.
